The Rocky Horror Show retro video game adaptation you never knew you needed until now!

There’s no crime in giving yourself over to pleasure – especially of the retro 8-bit gaming variety.

I’m sure the quote goes something like that. Anyway, for those of you looking to fill a bawdy classic stage musical meets Castlevania sized hole in your life, the Rock Horror Show stage musical (not the film) has been re-imagined as a retro video game.

No, your ears aren’t deceiving you. Those are the classic songs from the 1973 stage production (okay, and yes, the film, but mainly the stage musical) done in an 8-bit chiptune style, including the fan-favorite “Time Warp”. Available now for digital download on Nintendo Switch and Steam (with more to come soon), this side-scrolling adventure lets you see the beloved musical that’s mesmerized the pants off of audiences around the world for the last 50 years in a whole new way.

Here’s a bit more from the pr folks:

Metal X Entertainment/Bit Bot Media and FreakZone Games Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Richard O’Brien’s Iconic Stage Musical

The Rocky Horror Show Video Game faithfully recreates scenes and dialogue from the original stage play, allowing players to step into the shoes of Brad, Janet, and Dr. Scott. Each level is meticulously designed to capture the essence of the original sets in a nostalgic 8-bit format. Gameplay combines challenging but rewarding platforming and light combat elements, such as picking up and throwing objects at enemies and other experiments from Dr. Frank N Furter’s laboratory.

“As a longtime fan of The Rocky Horror Show, it was an honor to adapt the legendary musical into a video game,” says designer Sam Beddoes. “Now both new fans and veterans can enjoy a whole new take on the story and music in crunchy 8-bit goodness.”
